Every person has different stories. Some of their stories are interesting to tell. The life story of Arin Putri Dila is one of them. She is a girl who is usually called Arin who was born in Lahat, South Sumatera on April 23 1996. Now, she is 20 years old. She has two sisters and she is the oldest. Her older sister named Nora Centika is 16 years old and the youngest one is Meilan Monalisa and she is 11 years old. Her father worked as an army and her mother as a teacher in elementary school. Her family is not too big but they are a happy family.
She started her education at elementary school when she was five years old. When she was in junior high school, her favorite lessons was math. Contrarily, in collage, she did not like math at all. In high school, she had attended an English club. Also, she graduated from high school in her hometown that is SMA N 1 Talang Kelapa. At that time, she decided to continue her studies to a higher level. She was studied at Satate Polytechnic of Sriwijaya for 3 years in chemical engineering major. At the end of her study, Arin make a research about biogas production using Palm oil mill efluent (POME/liquid waste of oil palm) with an activator from cow manure in fed-batch system. It used fermentation process to produce the gas with the help of bacteria in cow manure. She did her research for six months. It was difficult, but she can do it. There are various reasons why she took this major, among which the interest in the world of chemical and obsessed with the various issues that come from this course such work in the manufacturing company that can make a lot of money. Actually, in her childhood, she was dream to be a doctor. In fact, she cannot. Moreover, she wants to continue her studying in abroad with the same major one day. She is interested in study in Japan, but she should finished her study in bachelor degree first.
After finished her study in Collage, she decided to look for work. But, to get a job was not easy. Many requirements that should be fulfilled. In the face of challenges in globalization era, human are required to be more active and have good skill. One of them is English proficiency as evidenced by a certificate of TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System). English proficiency is very necessary now either for work or continue the education to a higher level. Therefore, Arin resolved to learn English to improve English language especially for TOEFL. Her goal is get 550 or more score of TOEFL. She came to Pare, Kediri last month to learn about English and she chosen TEST English School to study. It is her second month she left her hometown in Palembang and try out new life more challenging. She tried to get out of my comfort zone by abandoning old habits and trying to survive in this new place. She still remember that day, December 7, 2016, when her mother, father and sisters her to the airport. Finally, for the first time she left her family for the next few months. It’s a little heavy for her to leave them because she have never left the house for a long time. She went alone without the company of my family, there were only three new friends who she have known a few days earlier. She went to a place she had never visited before and only heard its name on the internet. People call it the ‘kampung inggris’, which is famous place for many english courses. Many people managed to improve the English language after studying here. Using information she get on the internet, she tried to find this place. Exactly, at 12 am, she arrived at the village of English, Pare, Kediri. It is a long journey in her life. He needed to convince his parents before he was allowed to go to kediri because his parents was very worried about her. However, she continued to assure parents and finally her parent give the permission.
Actually, Arin is a person who like to eat. Her favorite food is pempek, the famous tradisional food from Palembang, South Sumatera. The food is made from flour and mixed with fish meat then formed in such a way and boiled or fried with oil. We can take it with a sauce made from brown sugar wich is diluted and given cayenne pepper. Palembangnese call this sauce “cuko”. The taste is very delicious. arin miss the food. She could not find pempek in pare. Although there is in Pare, the price very costly and the taste not as good as in her hometown.
In pare, he started a new life and many new things to learn as well. She met many new friends from different places in Indonesia with a background that is different. They like to give information and share knowledge also their experiences. There, arin not only to learn English but also learn how to live, how to survive, and how to respect each others. The most pleasant thing is to be together in many activities together with her friends in the dorm. Her friends are very friendly and kind. This makes her enjoyed her new place and feel right at home.
To study in Pare, Kediri, she go to Test English Scool, the famous English school in Pare. Every day, she had a very solid schedule, from rom 6:30 am until 9.30 pm. They consist of six classes per day start from memorizing class at 05.30 am, conversation class at 08.30 am, drilling class at 10.30 am, writing class at 13.00 pm, writing class at 03.30 pm and the last class is multimedia class at 07.30 pm until 09.30pm. It is a full schedule every day. Arin should be smart to set the time for learning and taking rest her body in order to stay healthy and be able to attend classes every day. In her first time, she feel tired because there is no more time to take a rest.
She usually wake at 03.00 am to memorize five titles of conversation in the “green book”. After that she take a bath and take subuh pray. The first class she attend at 05.30 am. She never come late to enter the all classes. But,sometimes, she feel sleepy in drilling class because the class begain at 10.30 am and the materi is all about grammar but she never sleep in this class.
At the first time, she felt bored and lonely. She tried to learn how to adapt with the situation there such as the food and the character of the people. She gets many experience there. Everything feel new and different. However, she can resolve every problem that she gets in her new place. If she feel homesick or miss her family, she will call her family. Her parents has always be her greatest motivation. As the oldest, she want to make her parent proud of her.
Arin is an introvert person. She likes to spend her time alone while listening to music. Her favorite kind of music is classical music but she do not play any instruments. In addition, she likes to watch a movie. Her favorite movie are horor and action film because they both very challenging. Like most other girls, she also interest in collecting makeup stuff but she is not too could to use it. Sometimes, at home, she likes to cook with her mom and doing something creative such make crafts. Furthermore, her hobby is writing especially in her privat blog. She usually write many things such us poem and narrative story. Besides, she is so obsessed to be a lecturer and author.
In her life, Arin has role model. Role model is someone who becomes guide in the life. Everyone has their own role model that becomes motivatorin their life. Arin adores her parent. Her parent are her inspiration in every day she life. Her mother is her first teacher and her father is her first love. Her parent always support her study and give the best for their children. Her father, who always gives his fight and love, is the only one man in her life. He always protect his family especially his daughters. Also, her mother, she is a wonderful human being. She is smart, wise, ambitious, patient and such a loving person. Many things that Arin can get from her mother. Her mother is a strong woman. She do everything herself such as cooking, washing and other household activities, although she also a career woman.
In her future, she has some dreams. She will continue her study in Sriwijaya university with same major that she tookin Polytechnic.Also, she interest to study abroad especially for exchange program.She thinks being an exchange student is different from being a regular student abroad because being a regular student abroad is a long term plan. She also wants to continue her study for master degree but after finished her study in bachelor degree, get a job and get married.
Arin now in Pare, Kediri as a student of a biggest and famous English course in Pare wich called TEST English School. Why she go there and why she want to learn about English? What is her motivation?
Language is our primary source of communication. It is the method which we share our ideas and thoughts with others. Language is only used by human that is what separates people from animals. This is used to communicate with each other. There are thousand languages in the world. Each country has their own language. However, Some languages are spoken by millions of people such English language.
Nowadays, English language is the language that most used in the world. Majority of people in United Kingdom, United State, Canada, Australia, Newzealand and other former colonies of Britain, and territories of the United States uses English as their primary language. It is taught as a foreign language and used as the language of technology and diplomacy, even in countries where English is not a primary or official language. Also, many business and cultural spheres dominated by those countries. This is what affects us, why people should learn English language?
There are several factors that make the English language essential to communication in our current time. it is the most common foreign language. This means that two people who come from different countries usually use English as a common language to communicate. Thus, everyone needs to learn the language in order to get in touch on an international level. Speaking it will help to communicate with people from countries all over the world, not just English-speaking ones. English is also essential to the field of education. In many countries, children are taught and encouraged to learn English as a second language. Even in countries where it is not an official language, such in Indonesia, we will find many leasson in science and engineering are written in English. Because it is the dominant language in the sciences, most of the research and studies which is found in any given scientific field will be written in it as well. At the university level, students in many countries study almost all their subjects in English in order to make the material more accessible to international students. Furthermore, On the Internet, the majority of websites are written and created in English. As a result, there is no reason for us not to learn English.
Many advantages that we can get from learning English since we was child. People can prepare to face English in a junior high school. When the students have graduated from an elementary school, then they enroll to a junior high school, English is not strange anymore to them because they ever got an English lesson in the elementary school. In a junior high school, an English lesson is a compulsory subject and English is a foreign language so the student should learn it since in an elementary school to avoid difficulties. The most important thing of learning English is time. Students need a long time to understand the second language deeply so if they learn English in junior high school for the first time, it will be difficult for them. For example, a student needs a long time to comprehend the grammatical structures because he or she still does not have a basic ability related to those structures. The second prominent thing is patience. Students need to practice English everyday so they can master it well. For instance, a student will have a difficulty to speak English fluently if he or she does not practice every day. The last precious thing is that students must have a strong will to learn English. It is because the students who have a strong will they will not give up easily. For example, while the students are learning English, they are going to make a lot of mistakes so that they need a strong will to learn it.
Another advantage is preparation to face the globalization era. In this globalization era everyone is supposed to be competent and improve his or her quality in order to face the challenges of life. Learning English has many good effects for the globalization era, one effect is they will be easy get a job because one of the requirements of every good job is have a skill in English. For example, someone who wants to apply in a big company he or she should have a good ability in English. Another effect is they will not become outdated because as the time goes by, science and technology will evolve and of course need English to learn. For example, if someone wants to get more information from internet, they need a skill in English most of the information in the internet is written in English. Another effect is they will be readier to compete with others in the world as English is an international language. As we all know that the competition to get the better life in this world is not easy so that we need a special ability such as an English skill. For example, if someone wants to work in developed countries with higher salary he or she needs to have an English skill.
In brief, English as an international language is important for human’s life because it becomes a bridge between countries in the world to interact so that in this modern era people are supposed to learn English in order to face the challenges of life. Therefore, English is important in an elementary school education because the better time to learn a second language is at the age of elementary school. People can get the advantages of learning English since in an elementary school to get the better and easier life because English has become a crucial tool for continuing education, employment and social status
Actually, there are many reason from the statement above that makes Arin want to learn about English. She want to prepare her self before she is ready to work. And the biggest motivation that makes her survive is her dreams and her parents. Test English School where she study is the best place to learn all about what she need. There,she not only study about English but also try to be a discipline person. This is also actually taught by his parents since childhood.
To sum up, Arin is a girl who want to learn english especially for TOEFL in Test English School. Her big motivation to study there are her parents and her dreams. English as an international language is necessary to learn because it uses in most of countries in the world and others.
