In this contemporary era, the vast majority of people are learning about English language to get a certificate for proficiency in English like TOEFL and IELTS. In this article, I would like to explain regarding TOEFL that has three sections such as listening, structure, and reading.

Listening comprehension, divided on three zones, is short conversation zone, long conversation zone, and long monolog. Taking short conversation zone as example, it can be seen that there are two speakers who is talking about their daily activities. Commonly, the most viable solutions to answer the questions hear what the second speaker talk about, but it is not always that the best answer is also at the first speaker from time to time. Going on long conversation and long monolog zones, the takers of TOEFL test will hear long conversation from both of speakers and also some of long monologs from one speaker. As such, the major contributing factor to acquire the best answer is that the takers have to understand what the speakers say. Therefore, practicing by listening music and watching movies in English is the key to get high score in listening comprehension.

Structure which has two sectors is answering the questions with multiple choices at 1 to 15 and looking for the mistakes of sentences at 16 to 40. The vast majority of inhabitants think that structure is the difficult part in TOEFL test but it is totally wrong statement that it will be difficult if they do not understand the patterns of structure. In structure, it does not talk about specifically grammar but it talks about how to recognize the best structure in a sentence. There are several clues that have to be understood by the takers of TOEFL test before they answer the questions of structure. Firstly, the takers should understand what are SUBJECT, VERB and CONJUNCTION in a sentence. Not only do they recognize regarding all those, but also they have to realize when those are utilized. Thus, the takers must concede incomplete sentences which are simple sentence, compound sentence, and complex sentence since all sentences or questions talk about them. Secondly, it is imperative issue that should be admitted by the takers. In structure, they must know regarding word classes which consist of four classes. There are NOUN, VERB, ADJECTIVE, and ADVERB. When they can acknowledge all of them, it will be easier for the takers to answer questions 16 to 40. Reading comprehension is the momentous thing that should be known by the takers since started from listening section until reading section, the takers are asked to read all of sentences. Moreover, they must understand and improve reading skills because it is the best key to increase score. It is true that there are several clues in reading skills such as scanning and skimming. Although you know the tricks of scanning and skimming, it will not work if you do not understand what passages say. There are several contents that you have to know in reading section. In reading section 1 to 50 questions, you will find questions regarding main idea, main topic, main purpose questions, factual questions, negative questions, scanning question, vocabulary-in-context questions and many clues. Those clues should be understood by the takers. This determines that understanding the questions will be simple to answer the questions. Therefore, you have to make reading as habits to increase score point.

The aforementioned evidence reveals that although improving score is not easy to be done by the takers of TOEFL, the takers have to know the pattern of TOEFL. Where possible, I believe that practicing everyday with the huge effort will give the best result as practicing makes perfect.
