My story at TEST English School

On October 1st 2011, Test English School being settled in Pare Village, Kediri East Java or known as Kampung Inggris. TEST-English School offers a method of study based on cultural studies which aim to reach academic purposes.Focusing on English test and Scholarship preparation are the purpose of TEST-English School. Test English school provided essential lesson for English learner such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. Create the course and assemble community for scholarship hunter. This course was built by Arsyandi Mulia, known as Executive Chairman of TEST International School. Traveling and graphic design are the hobbies of our CEO, Muhammad Raqib. Test is right choice for the one who want to learn about IELTS or Toefl. This paper will describe about picking Test English School to learn all about English language and motivation to learn English.

Nowadays, many people want to living in other countries for continuing study or finding a job. If people are going to apply to university or collage in English speaking countries meanwhile they are not from countries that using English as the first language. The institution required to take standardized test to prove English language proficiency. Many people in this situation will find English Course that can help others to achieve high score in toefl or ielts.One of the English Course that focusing on preparation ielts and toefl is Test English School. TEST-English School provides four main programs, which are TEST-University (seven month), Homeschooling (three month), Preschool (two month), and Afterschool (one month). There the other program in test which are TOEFL Camp (1 Month), IELTS Camp (1 Month), and English Camp (2 Weeks). Each program has differences between each other according the purpose. Test English school divided into three domains which are foundation class, integrated and establish. Basic level of English is learned in foundation class, intermediate level of English is learned in integrated class. Peoples who have already in advance level in English are learned in establish class on purpose to prepare TOEFL and IELTS test.

Decided to study at test English school because one of my senior have already studied here for one month take IELTS camp program. She told that if want to learn about IELTS just choose Test because test focusing on IELTS. There are so many scholarship offers by governments, company, institutes etc. Do not has high score in toelf and ielts is one of my reason go to Pare. Preparation before toelf and ielts test is important, teacher is needed to guide in learning activity. Read some review on the test’s website all of the reviewer give good comment and satisfied toward test English school, totally convinced to choose test too learn about toefl and ielts. According to Mutia Husna Avezahra TEST- English School built curriculum with therapeutic approach which mean able to intriguing each student to learn and open eyes to the reason why the student should learn English, get scholarship is one of the best reason. TEST offer the process of competition in English more natural in daily life. The example is the duration of study more than twelve hours in each day, variant method that appropriate with the objective in each variable. There are students who come to the TEST already fluent in English but there are some student with low knowledge in English, each students have different starting point but back to the motto “we speak scholarship”. On test’s website display many picture from the alumnus that successfully continue their study in favorite university in the world. Then test catch my eyes because of their motto “we speak scholarship”.

After becoming student of test English school, my first impression was exhaust my energy. Shocked because it is had been six month since I graduated from college then never study again. Begin to study again is hard, moreover the climatic changing stressed me out especially in Bandung it has cool weather and nice and differently with Kediri it so hot like a fridge an oven. For this one week, I made this time to adapt both cultural and the climatic condition. The schedule start from 5:30 AM until 9:45 PM. Students should attend the class five minutes before the class begin. Each day in TEST there are five class , begin by memorizing class at 5:30 AM , in memorizing class each students have to memorize five titles of conversation every night, and in the morning at memorizing class each students have to collect what their done to the teacher. For memorizing class, TEST provided green book contain English conversations in daily life. This book provides strategy to help students improve their ability in spoken English and ask students to practice. This paper will show the benefits of this book. Green book divided into three part of conversation which are short-easy, middle and exercise. Common sentences that use in daily life showed in this book. Student need to understand and memorize these sentences then the students are able to improve their spoken English. The sentences are easy to learn. Furthermore, when students practice a lot it will help the students to speak English fluently. Students trained how to express the sentence correctly because green book also provides the audio version. Every morning students should collect five title of conversations that already memories by student. Therefore, student getting into the habit of speak in English. Memorize the daily conversation from green book and pronounce the words appropriate with the audio version will enlarge vocabulary, familiarizing with listening and motivated students to speak in English fluently. It can be concluded that green book will help the students to improve their ability in spoken English. In order to make students be confident to speak English student need to practice and memorize the sentence in this book.

Continue to the next class which is conversation class, in this class we have to speak to the other students it can be debating or around Pare. In this class after students given task to debate, students are able to speak up what on their mind based on the topic given. Trained on how to debate, because is needed to have ability for debate to get scholarship. Furthermore, after students given task for talking with stranger known as around Pare. Female students have to talk with male and male have to talk to female. Around pare trained how students to talk with stranger and discussing something. More practicing to talk in English and built confident to talk in English Language with stranger or many people. Twice a week you have to go around Pare, discover your own “ victim” to have a conversation with you, and it should be recorded. Drilling class begin after conversation class. In drilling class students learn about grammar to minimize grammatical error in writing and speaking. To get high score in toefl and ielts is needed to understand the structure or grammar well. After taking a short break in the midday you have to join in writing class, class start at 1:00 PM after take a rest. Before students given task to write, the explanation was giving by the teacher. Teacher give clear explanation, example and giving a chance to students to ask everything about the topic. Student trained on how to write with good grammar, good structure and the contain of the text able to understand by the other people. When got into the habit of well writing it will help to get high score in ielts or toefl then give beneficial to the students. Speaking class, we learn how to pronounce the vocabulary, speak up in front of class, presenting the idea etc. After given the task for speaking, students are able to pronounce the vocabulary well. Speaking Class will force you to be brave to speak up in front of so many people. Multimedia class, learning activity in multimedia class different with the other class. Multimedia class filled of enjoying environment. The activity in multimedia class are singing English song together, watching movie together etc. After multimedia class, students are expected to relax, refresh and happy. Multimedia class start at 7:30 pm until 10:00 pm. Student in TEST compulsorily attend multimedia class, because test provides entertaining lesson might be useful to improve our English especially speaking and pronunciation. The reason why on January 17th 2017 did not attend multimedia class because I was falling asleep I personally felt that I was too tired because of the full schedule as well the tasks I should finish and memorize on that day. I just realized that I was falling asleep at 7:40 PM then decided to not attend the class because it was late. When I was in multimedia class I felt hot because I have not familiar with the environment, I need to adapt with the environment here. I felt when I was in multimedia class is like when I was in the sauna, I have to find something that I can use as fan such as paper or book. After multimedia class the homework from Mounseour and Moiselle will be waiting you to be done. Teacher in test was calling by student with this unique calling which are Mounseour male teacher and Moiselle for female teacher. According to the TEST alumnus, it was not easy to follow new tight schedules that gained while studying in test. See then, with this sort of activities there are two possibilities, come back home and forget your dreams, or adapt fight and enjoy it.

The girl who was born and growth from extraordinary family names Wijil Septiandari. She was born on September 11th 1995. Her father is elementary school teacher and her mother is housewife. Her family is big family because she has three sisters and 2 brothers. I call my father “Bapak” and call my mother with “Ibu”. She chooses Hadi Prayitno and Rusyati as her motivation. I am deeply indebted to my beloved Father and Mother who always staying by my side as hero in my life. Thank you for always, loving, praying, supporting me and for everything you’ve done for me. She goes to early childhood when she was four years old. TK Fransiskus is her favorite place when she was in childhood. In 2001 she continued her study to Fransiskus elementary school and graduated in 2007. One of best moment when she was in elementary school was joined battle of brain competition and got the first win. Graduated from SD Fransiskus she continued her study to SMP N 1 Kalirejo in 2007 and graduated in 2010. Then she continued her study at SMA N 1 Gadingrejo in 2010 and graduated in 2012. She took acceleration program when she was in high school. Her hometown is in Lampung, she lives in the village in Pringsewu Regency. In 2012 she follows SNMPTN and choose International Program on Science Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Her dream is to become teacher. Science in subject the she is interested it was the reason to choose that major. During in collage she is interested in science, creativity and students understanding, because of that reasons she took a research on that topic. It was her dream to make some media that can help students easy to understands the topic in science. One of essential lesson that studied by students at school is life science. She thought that life science is important to learn by students because it will help them to understand their surroundings. There is common situation in learning process that students have difficulty in learning life science. Many concepts or topics in life science can be perceived as difficult to learn by secondary school students. The reasons why students had difficulties in learning these topics are life science includes a lot of concepts, various biological events that cannot be seen by the naked eye, some concepts are too abstract, and that there are a lot of foreign or latin words (Çimer, 2011). Factually not all of the students like life science. Some of them thought that life science is hard to learn. This might happen due nowadays in instructional process there are still teacher which teach in conventional way such as like teachers use chalk and talk, presentation slide and speech in front of class. These learning method giving less opportunity for students to develop and find their own understanding and because teacher use conventional method. Students seem to be less interested in the science class while they were in old-school learning strategy. If the teachers use various visual teaching and learning materials and tools, such as figures, models, computer simulations, videos, 3-D Materials, and real life object such as real plants both the teaching and learning process may become more effective (Çimer, 2011).

To solve this problem, it was designed the development of teaching aid as leaning media in the form of book project. Teacher will give a task for students to make book project. Constructing a pop-up card is relatively easy, anyone can simply cut out the pieces and glue them together if a template is available (Okamura et al., 2009). Pop-up constructions support students’ inquiry while integrating art, craft, spatial, and creativity skills (Olsen, 2013). Students can make their own pop-up characters with teacher guidance and just a few papers sculpture techniques (Walkup, 2011).

Some of research finding proves that three dimension is capable to improve the students’ conceptual mastery. Making 3D models in learning activities help students to enhance their understanding about plant tissue system and also ease students’ mind to imagine the system when they learn (Suprapto, 2012). Movable and pop-up books teach clever ways, making the learning experience more effective, interactive, and memorable (National Museum of American History, 2010). In this research pop-up book contain picture and text regarding plant organs.
As a teacher, it important to let students express their creativity. This activity will encourage child to think spatially, increase fine motor abilities, and hone crucial problem solving skills all while using imagination and artistic creativity. Pop-up book as students’ product can be assessed to measure the creativity which affect on students’ creativity. Additionally, the book project classroom activity promotes sequencing and narrative development, supports early literacy skills, and helps to build memory recall (Loop, 2013). The visual representation has a function as an effective tool to understand difficult concept and functioning of cell (Perveen, 2012). Three dimension and two dimension models are examples of visual media, visual representation give illustration of abstract phenomenon that cannot be observed directly (Buckkley, 2000). That’s way pop-up book and smash book is used as teaching aids will help the students easier in learning plant organs and function. Since the plant organs and function consist of anatomy and morphology structure, the pop- up book is enable applied to enhance students’ understanding. When students construct and learn with three-dimension model as their project has positive role to help students’ improve their conceptual mastery with the requirement of imagination in learning science (Atika, 2014).

Students need to learn, practice, apply, and extend these skills as part of the project design. Throughout the process of creating pop-up book students will engage in and develop proficiency in the following types of skills such as comprehension skill, research and writing skills, questioning skills, group processes or collaborative learning skills, sequencing skills, skills with resources, skills with presentation tools, analysis skills, communication skills, problem solving, task and self-management skills (New York City Department of Education, 2009).Furthermore, while producing pop-up book and smash book a taxonomy by Bloom’s Taxonomy at different levels of thinking, is presented. Considering the explanations above, she aimed to a research related to students understanding and creativity. Then she would like to do and entitled the research on “Assessing Students’ Creativity and Understanding in Learning Plant Organs using Book Project”.
Wijil Septiandari was a member of SA-IPSE (Student Association of International Program on Science Education) in staff Communication and Information Department from 2013 to 2015. She participated as chairman of Meet and Great SA Faculty of Mathematics and Science alumnae, secretary of graduation day IPSE batch 2012, member of science festival IPSE, culture day and leadership training SA IPSE. She also participated in International Seminar Mathematics, Science and Computer Science Education (MSCEIS) as a presenter. She belief in God, pride of nation, upright personality, moral and ethical behavior.

The first motivation for she to learn English is she was graduated from International Program on Science Education. The IPSE curriculum consist of 144 credits of which 134 credits are core course and 10 credits are elective. The core curriculum prepares the graduated to became international school science teacher, and the elective courses provide opportunities for the graduate to further develop problem solving skills. The teaching is in English therefore, the graduate has the ability to use (written and oral) in their teaching. However, her capabilities have not reach the standard needed, she talks without thinking about structure and grammatical error in writing. She never knew to use proper academic English for formal communication, and how to use correct tenses on the writing. She need to learn a lot especially English to make his major proud of her. She only able to teach in English if she already prepares all of the material and more practice before go to teach even in presenting something in front of class. It was difficult, she wants able to fluent in English so it makes her easy to deliver the material and give good example to the students. Actually during in the collage she have took some course in English First and The British Institute but because the course schedule clash with collage schedule she not always attend the class. After graduated from IPSE she qualified to apply for admission to Master Degree of Professional Education. She wants to apply scholarship for continue her study. Consider many institute such as LPDP, AAS, Erasmus Mundus, Fullbright, Dikti, Chevening, Stuned,etc offering scholarship to catch our dream to study abroad and take the chance.

Language is the primary source of communication. It is the method through which can share the idea and discuss with others. Language is the main key to open our access through the world, English is the primary language of not only countries actively touch by British imperialism. Everyone needs to learn the language in order to get in touch on an international level. Speaking it will help you communicate with people from countries all over the world. English is also essential to the field of education. Many syllabi in science and engineering are written in English because it is dominant language in the science, most of the research and studies you find in any given scientific field will be written in it as well. Their subject in English in order to make the material more accessible to international students.on the internet, the majority of websites are written and created in English. With the good understanding and communication in English anyone able to travel around the world, because it is international language for foreigners. If have capabilities in English it will help us to apply scholarship to study aboard.
In conclusion, TEST English School is Focusing on English test and Scholarship preparation are the purpose of TEST-English School. English is important, because it is international language then English is useful even necessary language to know. Why should learn English because English is the international common tongue, develop the education field, easy to understand what is on the internet and help people while traveling or doing business. English should be learn by all of people.
